Read of the Town | An Author’s Odyssey

Every year, pretty consistently, Chris Colfer has released a new book in his very popular series, The Land of Stories. It’s mostly popular among the crowd that is (admittedly) half my age, but I don’t care, I love it and think, as twists on fairytales go, it’s pretty freaking great. I find most fairytale twists, geared towards an older crowd, harp on the romance, but I prefer the adventure and individual character growth the most. I also like to see how the writer mixes so many different tales together to see what they come up with. This series gives me all I could ever want in a series!

So if you haven’t yet read any of the previous books in the series I highly recommend them and leave you the link to my reviews of them all below:

The Wishing Spell

The Enchantress Returns

A Grimm Warning

Beyond the Kingdom’s

And now…

An Authors Odyssey TLOS5

If I can just take a minute to discuss the cover, they just keep getting better each time! This series just has everything! Great imagery, great language, characters, and setting as well. Each cover uniquely hints at the tales that will be told, in very Chris Colfer fashion, in this book. Looking at the cover of this book it looks like liberties will be taken here more than they have been in previous books. If I had to guess, the most obvious is Peter Pan, and the Mummy (is this a fairytale really?) and the other images I have NO idea what they are hinting at so I’m excited to find out who these people are!

In the highly anticipated continuation of the Land of Stories series, Conner learns that the only place to fight the Masked Man’s literary army is inside his own short stories!

When the twins and their friends enter worlds crafted from Conner’s imagination, finding allies no one else could have ever dreamed of, the race begins to put an end to the Masked Man’s reign of terror. Can the twins finally restore peace in the fairy tale world?
